The mm productions Stop Box is designed to act as a programmable auto stop and locator for MMC (MIDI Machine Control) for the Akai DR4 and DR8. Whilst these hard disk recorders have many qualities, the ability to auto stop at a defined point is not one of them, and this makes them difficult to use in a theatre environment. The Stop Box does this job, by reading the MIDI Time Code (MTC) and then sending a MTC 'Stop' command at the desired point. Overview The Stop Box consists of a desktop control surface, with operation buttons, Time Code LED, and Stop Point number LEDs. It is connected to a rack mount unit which includes the PSU, MIDI connections (for the connected Replay device) and remote input. Operation 100 of these 'Stop' points may be programmed, and each stop point may also have a 'Locate To' command, which means that the cues need not be in sequential order on the Hard Disk Recorder. In play mode, each time a stop point is accessed, a locate to message is sent; thus the stop box can be used as a locator. There is also a remote input, which duplicates the 'Play' function on the desktop box. This is particularly useful if the MD is triggering the Stopbox/Hard Disk Recorder as is usually the case in click-track work. |
