Radio Mics - 7 - Setting up the system 3 |

This is a step that is often missed out, particularly by amateur companies, but will considerably improve the performance of your system. On all transmitters, there will be a way of adjusting the gain of the pack. This sets up the pack for that performer, so if the pack or performer is changed, the gain setting should also be changed. For a more general discussion about gain, see the 'How to Guide' on setting up a gain structure, but for the purposes of this guide, the procedure is to locate the gain adjustment on the pack, and then with the lavallier mic attached in its optimal position on the performer, get them to produce their loudest sound as in performance. You then adjust the gain setting so this loudest sound is just under the level that produces distortion. In some packs, there will be an led indicator of this level, but with others, you will have to listen to the sound via the receiver, either through headphones or over the system. You must do this for each of your systems. If packs are shared between performers, then you will either have to compromise between the optimal gain settings (you will have to set it to the loudest performer), or make a note to change settings on the pack if there is time. Click here to view pictures and instructions on gain setting on all of our lavallier transmitters. |
