The character 'Che' has a beret,
and it is important that the mic is clear of the hat band if any
headgear is worn. If the headgear is not taken on and off during the
show, this can be set beforehand. If the hat is worn on and off, then
the actor needs to be taught to hold the hat in position on the head and to
'pull' the mic head just below the head band before entering onto stage.
If the hat is taken on and off on-stage, the actor must learn to
position the hat so that it doesn't cover the mic. The operator should
also try to learn or anticipate when the hat is being taken on and off,
and take the fader down to avoid any 'thumps'. It would therefore be an
advantage to liase with the actor (and Wig Department) any get them to limit hat movements to
times when they are not speaking/singing.
Hats with a 'brim' of any kind can have an adverse affect on the Sound quality that the Mic Head produces. This is caused by sound of the actors voice 'bouncing' off the brim of the hat and causing the mic to sound 'thin'. This can be avoided by pulling the mic head down the actors forehead a couple of centimetres away form the brim of the hat.
